Sister Mojo first began in December 2009 with the intension of being a blues band, for the first 6 months the girls cut their teeth in this genre and set tongues wagging. After a bit of shuffling around and soul searching the girls soon realised that they had developed their own sound; Mojoing a favourite tune just seemed to happen. This quickly sparked the desire to compose original music.
With Annemieke tearing out a cracker riff Kelly and Izzy prop it all up with a fat beat and bass line and Mia’s lyrical tones cementing it all together the band hit new strides. Songs are coming thick and fast, with 6 original songs in the show to date being quickly appreciated and accepted in Fremantle, Perth’s home of original music.
The music of Sister Mojo has morphed into a Rocky showcase with roots still dipped in the Blues. Influenced by Koko Taylor and Joe Bonamassa, combined with vocal greats like Janis Joplin and Renee Geyer mixed with the groundings of Led Zeppelin, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix all this with the Sister Mojo edge, audiences have enjoyed hearing some of their favourites songs played with a new fresh twist.
With a combination of covers and originals Sister Mojo have been able to work along side some of Perth’s greatest bands and have relished being part of the festival scene, satisfying audiences with their ability to rock it out or play it cool. The Sisters are busy writing new material and the recording process is soon to begin. In the meantime Sister Mojo continues to showcase their music. Keep an eye out for your chance to “Get Mojoed.”
